Is it just me or is this how a teddy bear's picnic should look like. I took the boys to one today organized by our local children's centre and it was dire. There were no picnic rugs, tea party toys, enthusiasm, or even many teddy bears in sight! (We were inside, it was raining, but still)!! We all sat around in silence with no idea when to start our picnic. The boys were starving and very bored. They knew roughly what to expect and they got nothing. I couldn't really blame them for wanting to run up and down, as there certainly wasn't any teddy bear's picnic going on, but then I felt all eyes were watching me to see how I dealt with this. Not to mention the staff there have a knack of making me feel like a bad mother (I managed to make one twin cry twice) and I was 'questioned' whilst trying to eat and ended up feeling like I was going to be reported for bad parenting. Needless to say, we left halfway through the 'picnic'!
What a shame! I took my stepdaughter to a local bookshop recently for what was advertised as a 'teddy bear's picnic'. Well we were the only people to turn up and had the staff running around when I asked where the picnic was happening! One other child did attend but no teddy bear in sight! Our teddies enjoyed the outing though and we had Paddington read to us which was great. Your sad picnic sounds awful!
